The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and beautiful with slight creasing throughout. The leather straps and trim have developed a lovely medium patina with water spots and scuffing throughout. The leather piping shows wear to the base and edges. The leather trim around the opening of the bag has creasing and wear, while the leather buckle strap shows soiling. The leather cinch strap has wear and cracking in places. The goldtone hardware has surface scratches and the goldtone rings at the opening of the bag have tarnished. The interior lining shows some wear and pen marks and stains to the base, but overall remains in good condition.
