We’ve rounded up a few key words and terms to know when you’re buying and selling designer bags online. It’s like a vocabulary lesson, but with handbags.


    Fashion/Handbag Buying and Selling Related Words and Abbreviations

    SA: Sales Associate
    LE: Limited Edition
    SLG: Small Leather Goods, usually wallets, card or key holders
    HG: Holy Grail. Your ultimate wishlist item. The bag or item you’ve always wanted, usually something rare or expensive, like a 'Himalayan Crocodile Birkin'.
    Unicorn: The same as holy grail, but sometimes referring to a harder to find, limited edition bag like a ‘Louis Vuitton White Watercolor Monogram Speedy 30’ in Like New condition.
    HTF: Hard To Find
    Full Set: A term used in reselling that refers to a bag that comes with everything it came with when purchased new in store (box, dust bag, receipt, tags, booklets, ribbons).
    BN: Brand New
    NWT: New with tags
    B/NIB: Brand New in Box
    B/NWT: Brand New With Tags
    NWOT: New Without Tags
    ISO: In search of
    NFS: Not for Sale
    OBO: Or best offer
    SHW: Silver Hardware
    GHW: Gold Hardware
    RHW: Ruthenium Hardware
    WOC: Wallet on Chain
    ML: Referring to a size Medium/Large
    RTW: Ready to wear
    BOTD: Bag of the day
    OOTD: Outfit of the day
    WIMB: What’s in my bag
    TPF: The Purse Forum (the top online forum/community for bag lovers)
    TTS: True to size
    SS: Spring/Summer release

    Louis Vuitton Terms & Abbreviations

    BB: Baby Bandouliere (mini size)
    PM: Petit Modele (small size)
    MM: Moyen Modele (medium size)
    GM: Grande Modele (the biggest size)
    NM: New/Nouveau Model
    DE: Damier Ebene Canvas
    DA: Damier Azur Canvas
    Vachetta:  Natural, vegetable-tanned vachetta cowhide leather: usually on Monogram Canvas bags. The leather starts out with a white tone and gradually darkens over time, leaving a rich caramel or amber color.
    Patina: When vachetta leather ages, it develops a "tan,"  which is referred to as a patina
    Clochette:  French for "little bell".  A bell-shaped leather holder on a leather strap which holds a padlock key at the end.
