How To Read A Celine Date Code

How to authenticate Celine bags | YoogisCloset.com Authenticated Pre-Owned Luxury

The house of Celine has a knack for designing It bags: the Luggage Tote, Nano Luggage, Trapeze, Phantom, Trio, Box and Edge bags. If you're shopping for a Celine bag, you may have come across a series of letters and numbers, or heard about a "date code." If you're interested in learning how to read a Celine date code or what year/season a Celine bag was made, this blog post will teach you.

Do Celine bags have serial numbers? No. Instead, Celine bags have date codes. In most Celine bags, you’ll find a set of letters and numbers embossed inside the item, which indicate where and when a bag was created. The embossed numbers are not unique and can be repeated. This means that multiple bags can have the exact same date code, NOT a serial number. The format of a Celine date code will always be the same: one letter, followed by two letters, followed by four numbers, separated by a dash.

Celine has many variations on how and where the date code is presented based on the season, year, and bag style. It can be printed on a leather tag or embossed directly on the lining. There are differences in the thickness of the embossing, the shape of the leather tab itself, the font, and the location of the date code. Some Celine bags have a single line, while others have two lines of date codes with the first line indicating the production start date and the second line indicating the production completion date. Others also have the words ‘Made in Italy’ under a single line of date codes, or two lines.

Celine date codes read X-XX-#### format where the last four numbers of the code indicate the date of manufacturing. The first three letters indicate the location of the factory where the bag was made. The first and third numbers indicate the week it was made, and the second and fourth digits are the year. For example, ‘S-CU-3196’ means that the bag was made on the 39th week of 2016. Occasionally, factory codes will start with two letters (XX-XX-#### format), especially on Celine Trio bags.

What does my Celine bags have a date code with with different format? It's worth noting that Celine has updated the date code format throughout the years. While the "WYWY" format described above is the most common, Celine has also produced bags with the "WWYY" format. For example, the date code "0616" indicates that the bag was made in the 6th week of 2016.

It's important to say here that it’s very difficult to tell if your bag is real or fake from only looking at the date code. All aspects of the bag need to be carefully looked at to determine authenticity.

Celine is one of the harder brands to distinguish between the real deal and the fake. Many Celine bags have achieved popularity, and with fame comes a soaring counterfeit market. Counterfeits have improved over the years, meaning that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to tell the real thing from a fake. As always, everything we sell on Yoogi's Closet is 100% authentic.
