The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and beautiful, but there are scuff marks present throughout. The bottom corner edges have wear. The leather has developed a warm honey patina with overall wear and water spots. Throughout the leather trim there is heavy creasing. The leather trim on the base of the bag has soiling. The leather trim on the front of the bag has a faint pen mark. The handles have wear and the undersides have darkened. The goldtone hardware has surface scratches and flaking. The interior is clean and in good condition.
