The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior Monogram canvas is clean overall but shows faint rubbing along the bottom corners. The leather overall has developed a medium honey patina with faint water spots. The leather piping has wear and rubbing especially at the bottom corners. The top handles show surface scratches, water spots, faint soiling, a faint pen mark, and darkening at the tops. The hardware has surface scratches. The interior is clean and in good condition with a few faint small stains.
