The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and in great condition, but there is fading and wear around the opening of the bag, as well as to the bottom corner edges. The leather overall has developed a dark honey patina with visible water spots. The leather piping in the bottom corner edges has heavy wear. The handles have heavy wear and some soiling. The hardware has flaking and is staring to tarnish. The interior has pen marks and stains, but is otherwise clean and still in good condition.
