The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and beautiful, but has slight curling to the flap and has light wear at the bottom corners. The leather has developed a honey patina with water spots. The leather piping has rubbing and wear, especially at the bottom corners. The shoulder strap has creasing, scuffing, staining and the glazing is starting to wear down. The interior has a large ink stain, and some light wear, but is still in good condition overall.
