The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior coated canvas is clean and beautiful with light rubbing to the bottom corners. The leather trim and handles have developed a dark patina with water spots, soiling and wear. The leather trim shows rubbing, soiling, darkening, and wear along the bottom corners and along the upper trim. The handles have softened from use, the leather has darkened and shows wear to the glazing. The shoulder strap is clean but has some water spots and light creasing. The leather zipper pull has heavy wear and soiling. The goldtone hardware has surface scratches and fading throughout. The leather side tabs show pulling from the coated canvas. The interior lining shows some rubbing and some light stains to the base.
