The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and beautiful, but along the sides there is creasing and the corner edges have light wear. The leather has developed a light patina, but throughout there are water spots. The leather piping has overall wear. The leather trim at the bases of the handles have some oil spots and overall scuffing. The handles have wear and very slight darkening. The canvas strap has minor creasing. The goldtone hardware has surface scratches and light flaking. The interior lining has some marks and along the seams there is some splitting, but is otherwise clean and still in good condition.
