The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and beautiful, but there is minor wear in the bottom corner edges. The leather has developed a dark honey patina with water spots throughout. The leather trim overall has wear. The leather trim on the front of the bag has soiling. On the right strap base the rivet has fallen off. The shoulder strap has creasing throughout. The goldtone hardware has tarnished and is flaking. The interior of the bag has signs of wear and the flat pocket has heavy peeling, thus is unusable. But otherwise the interior is clean and still in good condition.
