The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and beautiful, but throughout there are some minor scuff marks. The leather has developed a caramel patina, but overall water spots are present. The leather trim has wear throughout and the flap tab closure has creasing. The handles have wear and slight darkening from being held. The goldtone hardware has tarnished and has surface scratches. The interior has a notable musk odor, but otherwise is clean and still in good condition.
