The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and beautiful, but there is wear in the bottom corner edges. The leather has developed a light patina with faint water spots and wear present overall. The leather tab that holds the padlock has stretched from normal use. The handles have darkened and developed a waxy texture from being held. The goldtone hardware has surface scratches and is flaking. The interior lining has some spots as well as a faint musk odor, but is still clean and in good condition.
