The graphic symbols, including the quatrefoils and flowers, as well as the LV Monogram were used to prevent counterfeiting in the early days when it was first patented. Made of coated canvas, the Monogram's traditional look is also endured by its durability.

The exterior canvas is clean and beautiful with rubbing at the bottom corners. The leather has developed a medium honey patina with water spots and creasing. The leather piping has wear at the bottom corners, including on area that has worn away to the plastic piping inside. The handles have darkened from use, have scuffing and wear, they have also softened. The goldtone hardware has surface scratches, with rubbing and fading to the bottom metal feet. The interior is clean but does have some rubbing throughout.
